Sunday, March 29, 2026 – The Way to Rescue is Surrender, Not Control
Where Are We Headed This Week?
We are drawn to power.
We admire strength, influence, and the ability to take control of a situation and bend it toward a desired outcome. We assume that if something is going to change, it will happen through force, strategy, or authority.
But Jesus shows us a completely different power.
As He stands before Pilate, accused and misunderstood, Jesus does not defend Himself. He does not resist. He does not take control in the way we expect.
Instead, He surrenders.
This week brings us to the center of the story. Not a throne built by force — but a cross embraced in humility.
And we are invited to reconsider everything we believe about how real change happens.
A Deeper Look
Isaiah describes a servant who suffers yet remains obedient. The Psalm gives voice to anguish and trust held together. Paul tells us that Jesus, though equal with God, emptied Himself. And in Matthew, we see the moment where everything comes to a head — the King on trial.
This is not weakness. It is the deepest expression of strength the world has ever seen. Jesus does not lose control. He relinquishes it. And in doing so, He reveals the true nature of God’s Kingdom:
Power is not found in domination. It is found in self-giving love. The cross is not a detour from victory. It is the way victory comes.
Biblical Texts This Week
Isaiah 50:4–9a
Psalm 31:9–16
Philippians 2:5–11
Matthew 27:11–54
Weekly Practices
1. Release Control in One Area
Identify one place in your life where you are trying to control the outcome. Offer it to God in prayer: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
2. Choose the Way of Humility
In one interaction this week, choose humility over being right, recognized, or in charge. Practice lowering yourself rather than asserting yourself.
3. Reflect on the Cross
Spend a few quiet moments each day reflecting on Jesus before Pilate and on the cross.
- What do you notice about His posture?
- What does it reveal about God?
Guided Prayer
Take a slow breath.
Open your hands in front of you. Say quietly:
“Jesus, You are a different kind of King.”
Pause.
“Where I seek control…teach me surrender.”
(brief silence)
“Where I hold tightly…teach me to trust.”
(brief silence)
“I choose Your way over my way.”
Sit for a moment in stillness.
Amen.
