Friday, March 6, 2026 – You don’t have to carry what grace has already secured

The Short of It

This week invited us to loosen our grip.

Abram left the familiar.
The psalmist lifted his eyes.
Paul dismantled earning.
Nicodemus discovered that new life can’t be manufactured.

The old story says: Control it. Prove it. Secure it.

The new story says: Trust it. Receive it. Be born into it.

If Week 1 was about stepping out from hiding, Week 2 was about stepping out from self-reliance.

Summary of the Week’s Readings

Genesis 12:1–4a (Monday)

God calls Abram to leave everything familiar and trust a promise without a map. The future will not be secured through control, but through obedience and faith.

Psalm 121 (Tuesday)

The pilgrim asks, “Where does my help come from?” and answers with confidence: from the Lord. We are not the ultimate keeper of our lives — God is.

Romans 4:1–5, 13–17 (Wednesday)

Abraham was counted righteous not because he achieved, but because he believed. Righteousness is credited by grace, not earned by effort.

John 3:1–17 (Thursday)

Nicodemus searches for the kingdom through religious performance. Jesus reveals that new birth, not a better ritual, is the doorway into God’s reign.

Thread of Grace

You do not have to save yourself. The promise was never dependent on your perfection. The kingdom is not built by your control. Grace has already moved toward you. Trust is simply stepping into what God is already doing.

A Simple Practice to Carry into the Weekend

Before Sunday, take five minutes and open your hands in prayer. Name one thing you have been trying to control. Then say:

“Lord, I release this into Your keeping.”

Walk into the weekend not as the author of your story — but as someone being led.

Closing Prayer

Father,
I am tired of holding everything together.
Teach me to trust Your promise more than my plans.
Where I have tried to earn, help me receive.
Where I have gripped tightly, teach me to release.
Give me eyes to see Your kingdom already at work.
And give me courage to live in the new story You are writing.
Amen.
