Friday, February 13, 2026 — Fifth Sunday of Epiphany Recap (Seeing Clearly)

The Short of It

This week helped us see that God’s authority does not operate through control, fear, or spectacle. Instead, it is revealed through lives shaped by compassion, trust, humility, and faithful presence. Seeing clearly means learning to recognize—and participate in—a power that heals rather than dominates.

Summary of the Week’s Readings

Isaiah 58:1–9a (Monday): God confronts a disconnect between worship and life. True devotion always turns outward toward justice, mercy, and compassion.

Psalm 112 (Tuesday): Faithful lives quietly shine as light in the darkness. They do this through generosity, integrity, and trust in God. They do not fear the future.

1 Corinthians 2:1–12 (Wednesday): Paul reminds us that God’s power is not revealed through impressive speech. It is not shown through human wisdom. Instead, it is revealed through reliance on the Spirit and the message of Christ crucified.

Matthew 5:13–20 (Thursday): Jesus calls His followers salt and light. They should not draw attention to themselves. Instead, they should reflect God’s goodness in ways that help others see more clearly.

Thread of Grace

The authority of Jesus is grounded in compassion, not control.

Across every passage this week, we encountered a consistent vision of God’s power. It is not imposed. It is offered. God’s authority does not coerce obedience or demand attention; it restores, invites, and transforms. Jesus exercises authority by healing, blessing, and empowering others to live as light in the world.

Seeing clearly means trusting that this kind of authority—gentle, faithful, and compassionate—is strong enough to change lives.

A Simple Practice to Carry into the Weekend

Reflecting the Light (10 minutes)

  • Sit quietly and review the week’s readings.
  • Ask yourself: Where did I notice God’s authority expressed through compassion rather than control?
  • Consider one relationship or situation where you are tempted to force an outcome.
  • Pray: “Jesus, teach me to trust Your way of love.”
  • Choose one small, faithful action this weekend that reflects God’s gentle authority.

Closing Prayer

Jesus,
You show us a power that heals rather than harms, and an authority that restores rather than controls. Help us let go of our need to impress, persuade, or dominate. Teach us to trust the quiet strength of Your love.
As we move into this weekend, form us into people who show Your light with humility and grace.
Amen.
