Sunday, February 8, 2026 – Fifth Sunday of Epiphany (Series: Seeing Clearly)
Where Are We Headed This Week
This week moves us from recognizing Jesus’ compassionate authority to living as people shaped by it. We have seen what God’s power looks like in Christ. Now, we are invited to consider how that light takes shape in our own lives. Seeing clearly is never only about perception—it is about participation.
The question before us is not simply What do we believe about Jesus? but How does His light now show up through us?
A Deeper Look
The Scriptures this week insist that God’s light is not meant to be admired from a distance. It is meant to be lived. Isaiah challenges a form of faith that disconnects worship from justice. He reminds us that true devotion always spills outward in compassion and care. Psalm 112 paints a picture of people whose lives quietly shine through generosity, integrity, and trust in God.
Paul, writing to the Corinthians, pushes back against flashy spirituality and persuasive power. He insists that God’s wisdom is revealed through humility and reliance on the Spirit rather than human confidence. And in the Gospel, Jesus names His followers as salt and light—not someday, but now. His authority does not end with blessing; it commissions.
Together, these texts help us see clearly: God’s light is not meant to be hidden, hoarded, or performed. It is meant to be embodied in ordinary faithfulness, mercy, and courage.
