Sunday, January 25, 2026 – Week 4 — The Chase: Searching for What’s Real
Where Are We Headed This Week
This week invites us to notice where God is already at work in the ordinary spaces of our lives. We are invited to see that God often calls people while they are simply living. This happens while they are working, waiting, struggling, and showing up again. We should not chase dramatic moments or extraordinary clarity.
Faith this week is less about escape and more about attention. God’s call meets us where we already are.
A Deeper Look
Isaiah speaks to people walking in darkness—not because they have failed, but because life is heavy and uncertain. Into that ordinary struggle, light breaks in. Not all at once. But enough to see the next step forward.
The psalmist names real fear and opposition. Nothing is sanitized or idealized. And yet, faith rises not by denying danger, but by trusting that God’s presence is stronger than it. Courage grows in the middle of everyday uncertainty.
Paul writes to a divided church wrestling with egos, arguments, and misplaced priorities. There is nothing flashy about the situation. And that’s the point. God’s work does not advance through spiritual performance. It does not progress through impressive words. Instead, it advances through the simple, scandalous message of the cross. This is God meeting humanity right where it is.
Then the Gospel grounds everything in the most ordinary of scenes. Jesus walks along the shoreline. He sees people doing their jobs—casting nets, mending equipment, finishing another workday—and He calls them. No auditions. No prerequisites. No delay.
The call of Jesus does not interrupt life from the outside. It meets people inside their daily routines and invites them forward from there.
This week reminds us that God’s grace is not reserved for mountaintop moments. It shows up along the shorelines of everyday life.

Weekly Practices
Practice Faithfulness in the Ordinary.
This week, pay attention to where you already are rather than where you wish you were.
- Notice one daily routine where God might already be present.
- Ask simply, “Jesus, how are You calling me to follow You here?”
- Take one small step of obedience—not because it feels dramatic, but because it is faithful.
God rarely calls us out of our lives.
God calls us within them.
