Fourth Sunday of Advent Overview-Sunday, December 21, 2025

The Short of It

This week invites us to trust God’s promises even when we stand in the middle of doubt, disruption, or uncertainty. Advent hope grows when our response to God becomes the same as Mary’s: “Let it be.”

The Long of It

The Fourth Sunday of Advent draws us into the quiet, courageous trust that marks the beginning of the Christmas story. Isaiah speaks to a king. The king refuses to trust God. Yet, God still promises a sign: a child who will reveal God’s presence. The psalmist cries out for restoration from a place of national despair. He calls upon God as the Shepherd who leads His people back to life. Paul opens his letter to the Romans by grounding the gospel in God’s ancient promises now fulfilled in Jesus. And in Matthew’s Gospel, Joseph stands at the crossroads of confusion and calling. He is invited to trust God’s word even when it turns his entire life upside down.

Each passage shows people facing uncertainty, disruption, or fear—yet God remains faithful. Advent Week 4 prepares us for Christmas by inviting us into this same posture of trust. When God speaks, our faith-filled response can echo Mary’s surrender and Joseph’s obedience: “Let it be according to Your word.”

Weekly Practice

Practice: Say “Let It Be” in Your Waiting

Each day this week, identify one situation where you feel doubt. Find a moment where fear or uncertainty arises. Pray a simple Advent prayer:

“God, let it be Your way in me.”
Release your desire for control and open your heart to trust the God who keeps His promises.
